Sharing Camera Access and Managing Permissions
Hestiaa lets you share access to a camera with other people using a share token. You can choose which permissions to grant, share the token with the recipient, review existing access, and revoke access when it is no longer needed.
1. Open the Sharing Dashboard
- Open Hestiaa and navigate to the Share tab.
- The dashboard displays your cameras.
- Tap the three-dot menu next to the camera you want to share.
- Select Share camera to create a new share token, or Manage access to review existing access.
2. Create a Share Token
- Select Share camera from the camera's menu.
- Enter a name in the Share Token Name field so you can identify the share.
-
Choose the permissions you want to grant:
- Camera Events: Allows access to camera events.
- Recording: Allows access to recordings.
- View Stream: Allows access to the camera's live stream.
- Enable or disable each permission according to the access you want to grant.
- Tap Share to create the token.
A Token Created confirmation appears when the token is created successfully.
3. Share the Token
After creating the token, you can distribute it in either of these ways:
- Copy Token: Copy the token so you can send it yourself.
- Share Token: Open your phone's sharing options and choose an available app or contact.
Send the token to the intended recipient. The recipient can enter the token in Hestiaa as a guest; signing in is not required to enter the token.
Share tokens expire after a defined period. Make sure the recipient uses the token before it expires.
4. Manage Existing Access
To review who has access to a camera:
- Open the Share dashboard.
- Tap the three-dot menu next to the relevant camera.
- Select Manage access.
The Manage Access screen lists existing access entries and displays the access level associated with each entry.
5. Revoke Access
If you no longer want someone to have access to a camera:
- Open Manage access for that camera.
- Find the access entry you want to remove.
- Tap the red trash icon.
- Review the Revoke Access? confirmation.
- Tap Yes, Revoke to confirm.
Revoking access cannot be undone. The app displays a confirmation message when access has been revoked.
Manage Sharing Carefully
- Grant only the permissions the recipient needs.
- Share tokens only with intended recipients.
- Review existing access periodically.
- Revoke access when it is no longer required.
