Creating and Managing Motion Detection Zones

Hestiaa lets you define specific areas within a camera's view for motion detection. You can create multiple zones, adjust their shapes, enable or disable individual zones, and delete zones you no longer need.

1. Open Motion Zones

  1. Open Hestiaa and go to the Dashboard.
  2. Select the camera you want to configure.
  3. Open the camera's settings.
  4. Select Motion Zones.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to open the zone editor.

2. Create a Motion Zone

  1. Open Motion Zones.
  2. Select Create First Zone if no zones exist, or choose Add More Zones to create another zone.
  3. On the camera view, draw the area you want to monitor by placing and adjusting the zone's points.
  4. Review the selected area.
  5. Tap Save and Exit to save your changes.

You can create multiple zones within the same camera view to monitor different areas.

3. Edit a Motion Zone

To change an existing zone:

  1. Open Motion Zones in Camera Settings.
  2. Select the zone you want to adjust.
  3. Modify its shape or boundary points on the camera view.
  4. Review the updated area.
  5. Tap Save and Exit to save your changes.

Adjust the zone boundaries to cover the areas relevant to your monitoring needs.

4. Temporarily Disable a Zone

You can switch off an individual zone without deleting it.

  1. Open Motion Zones.
  2. Find the zone you want to disable in the zone list.
  3. Switch off its toggle.

When a zone is switched off, motion detection stops in that zone, but the zone remains saved. You can switch it on again when you want to resume detection in that area.

5. Delete a Motion Zone

If you no longer need a zone:

  1. Open Motion Zones.
  2. Find the zone you want to remove.
  3. Tap the red trash icon next to that zone.
  4. Review the remaining zones and make any other changes needed.
  5. Tap Save and Exit to save your changes.

Deleting a zone removes it from your configured motion zones. If you may need it again, consider switching it off instead.

Tips for Using Motion Zones

  • Draw zones around the specific areas you want to monitor.
  • Use separate zones for different areas of the camera view.
  • Disable a zone temporarily when you want to keep its configuration without detecting motion there.
  • Review your zones after making changes and save before exiting.
